UnMasked 2011 - Live Art Auction

Prominent Canadian artist spoofs Royal Wedding

All for a good cause...

Toronto artist Charles Pachter has created an acrylic and inkjet tribute to Prince William and Kate Middleton available at auction at UnMasked, a May 11 fundraiser for the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH), Canada's largest hospital for mental illness and addictions.

TORONTO, April 21 /CNW/ - Artist Charles Pachter - famed for his cheeky and iconic explorations of Canadian culture - has created an acrylic and inkjet tribute to Prince William and Kate Middleton as part of a dynamic fundraiser for Canada's largest hospital for mental illness and addictions.

Pachter's artwork takes a West Queen West neighbourhood icon - the albino white squirrel found in Toronto's Trinity Bellwoods Park near CAMH - and pairs it with an informal image of the Royal couple, who will be married next week. The piece is called Hat Check.

"Over the last 40 years I have painted William's granny, Queen Elizabeth II, riding a moose in many Canadian settings, so I figured it was time to give Kate and William their due. And we all know how much the Royals love hats!" Pachter said.

Hat Check is among a number of art pieces available for auction at UnMasked 2011, an upcoming fundraiser for Toronto's Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH).

On May 11, over 700 food and art lovers come together for an eclectic evening in support of CAMH. Pachter is one of 22 artists donating work for auction at the UnMasked After Party, which follows exclusive dinners staged in 18 different art galleries by leading chefs and caterers. Bidding on the artwork takes place at 10pm on May 11 at the UnMasked After Party at 99 Sudbury in Toronto.

Now in its fourth year, UnMasked - with the After Party hosted by CBC's George Stroumboulopoulos - is itself bigger and better than ever with great live music, celebrity guest djs and a virtual graffiti wall. Stay tuned for more details on special live performances. After Party tickets are $150 per person and are available at unmasked.ca, along with a preview of all artwork on offer.
